I purchased my Zoe technic 8 weeks ago with 435 miles on the clock. Nov 30 2022 so 72 reg. having used it fine around town 240/250 on a full charge I had to go somewhere where I had to travel at 60/70 mph. The mileage with the air con on dropped rapidly. I backed off and got home with 20% 46 miles.
I asked my Renault dealer today as it now only as 1000 miles on it. What is it worth to go back to ICE. A£7000 drop for 2 months.
Jaw on the floor!
I see there is a item on on which.com about the ratings of 1-10 of the rapid depreciation of current electric cars (like mine) in their first year. Zoe is number 2 and they estimate my 2022-72 Techno Zoe is as the dealers told me down to £11000 trade in with 1000 miles on it and still only 10 months old.
Sold it on Carwow £12200 (a great loss), it is now for sale 8 miles from me £17498 at Car Supermaket. So you could say it is a good buy for 10 months old compared to £30000 new. Just remember it's only worth £11000 to a Renault dealership. Who are selling the same for £19000.
The excuse is you can get a brand new one with no wait and so they (when they have it off you) say it devalues your car. Doesn't seem to devalue their retail of it.
I traded in a 2023-23 MG ZS EXCLUSIVE for my Zoe. 1000 miles on it and only lost £2480 for 3 months on that. ICE cars are not as easy to get hold of as an EV hence they don't rapidly depreciate at the same rate. Yes EV cost mpg is a lot less, but factor in the depriciation and ICE wins hands down.
Gone back to a MG ZS EXCLUSIVE 2023-73.
Once bitten twice shy!
I guess it will all depend on how much you paid for the vehicle, but I can assure you that there has not been a significant drop in values within the last 8 weeks specific to the Zoe. What i can say is that the majority of vehicles have dropped in value in the last month,
Also a lot of lease cars coming onto the market recently, quite a few from ONTO !! I have just reserved a Zoe 72 plate GT+ 135 at a Renault dealer in red with 7k miles for £13200...Motorway quote £11,500 for a trade sale so rest must be the dealers profit. I considered a Mini EV but half the range and £10K more even with the recent crash, liked the Zoe's range but not £32K for a new one. Sold a golf match tdi 66 plate for £13,200 in August funnily enough, when I saw this Zoe thought it had to be worth a look for that price for 1 year old, 4 more years warranty and 7 more years battery warranty and nigh on 200 miles range. Still other 22 and 72 plates on AT for £14/15/16k+... will just be my round the doors car if I get it so expect to charge at home once a month maybe will see if its any good if I get it !!
Ian, I bought a 2nd hand ZE50 recently and have been following the market. The list is currently about £32,600 but the best new price is only about £24k on Autotrader. We don't know what you paid or what you were offerred of course. Selling a new car a dealer will discount no more than he has to and buying back (as you proposed) he would pay the minimum he can get away with to sell on at profit. I think your post is a good illustration of the perils of buying a new car and selling early and not necessarily a reflection of the Zoe. Similarly - all EVs lose range rapidly as motorway speed increases over about 50mph.
New cars depreciate faster in the first 3 years. It's the same with an ICE.
Whilst you would expect a drop in achievable mileage yours seems extreme and indicates a fault somewhere.
