Hello all, Maeve here, in Lancs. I've just acquired a 2015 low miles (11K) one owner Zoe which I'm delighted with. As it our first EV, we have no idea about getting a charge point installed at home, and were wondering if a used EV even qualifies for the grant to keep costs down (I know - we should have checked all that out before plumping for the car!! Doh! - long story, but we didn't).
I can charge temporarily at the neighbours who have a Corsa and Lexus EVs, but longer term will need a charge point here.
Any thoughts?
Maeve
link to my charger information can be found at evnick.com/charge
Hi Maeve I changed my supplier to Octopus who not only helped with my charger install also have an off peak rate to charge to car of just 5p per Kw. Thus I can program the car to recharge overnight for very little cost. Last month I only spent £7.70 on fuel for the car and did nearly 1,200 miles....
I know that Lexus make hybrids, but EVs?
have you seen my video series on home charge points?
Hi Maeve. Welcome to ZOE ownership, glad to hear you’re enjoying it so far!
In terms of home charge point installation, there are lots of options. A lot of the big energy companies offer home charge point installation, plus you have companies who specialise in chargers like PodPoint, as well as local installers. I'm near Peterborough and had my Rolec charger installed by a local company.
Whichever supplier you choose, they should apply for the grant on your behalf, but check this when you speak to them. However, the grant is changing on 31st March 2022 and it’s likely most people won’t be eligible after this date so it might be a good idea to start the process as soon as you can.
In the meantime, you can check out www.zap-map.com/live for local public charge points, some of which will be free to use, if you don't want to keep asking your neighbour.
