The Renault 5 E-Tech 100% electric has clinched a major industry award ahead of its early 2025 launch, being named ‘Best Car of the Year – The New Car World Champion 2024/2025’. This pure electric supermini also secured the title of ‘Best Electric Car 2024/2025’ from the independent, not-for-profit organization Best Cars of the Year in its annual New Car World Championships.
The international judging panel, comprising industry-leading car designers, engineers, executives, motorsport icons, and automotive media professionals, first awarded the Renault 5 E-Tech 100% electric the ‘Best Electric Car 2024/2025’ accolade at a special ceremony on the opening day of the British Motor Show.
From the ceremony until the show’s closure on August 18th, the public was invited to choose from a trio of finalists shortlisted for the ultimate award of ‘Best Car of the Year – The New Car World Champion 2024/2025’. After public voting via the official Best Cars of the Year website and the judging panel’s votes, the Renault 5 E-Tech 100% electric emerged victorious.
Judges Shiro Nakamura (ex-Nissan design chief), Ray Massey (motoring journalist for the Daily Mail), Tim Shaw (TV’s Car S.O.S star), Paul Swift (multiple world record-breaking driver), and Mike Rutherford (Best COTY founder) were particularly impressed with the Renault 5 E-Tech 100% electric.
Car design legend Shiro Nakamura praised the Renault 5 for its modern electric vehicle design, while award-winning journalist Ray Massey highlighted its role in Renault’s revitalized lineup and its appeal to motorists.
The Renault 5 E-Tech 100% electric was a standout at the Best Car of the Year stand and a major attraction at the British Motor Show, drawing thousands of visitors.
Guillaume Sicard, Managing Director Renault UK, expressed his delight at the award, emphasizing the car’s sustainable mobility and emotive design. The Renault 5 E-Tech 100% electric, faithful to the 2021 concept car, combines the style of the original model with modern electric technology. With a driving range of up to 248 miles on a single charge (pending WLTP certification), it is set to arrive in the UK in Q1 2025. Customers can purchase an R-Pass for £150 to place their order 10 days before the general public.
